Military Veteran Services

Recent studies have shown, that an overwhelming 1.8 million members of the Armed Forces having served in Iraq and Afghanistan are facing physical and mental health needs.  Many of our injured armed forces personnel or those that are experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), are returning home with hopes of successfully transitioning to civilian life but are finding many communities are not equipped to respond appropriately to their needs.  Easter Seals is committed to offer military and veterans systems of care with viable options to support and augment current reintegration efforts and promote their successes by helping them attain their personal and family goals while becoming full participants within their own communities.

Easter Seals mission, however, goes beyond just serving the individual, and extends its services to the children and family members of veterans including:

•  Therapeutic workshops to better assist children in learning how to cope with the challenges of having a family member who has returned from overseas and offering them the opportunity to gather and learn in a safe place, vent their fears and frustrations and to meet other children who are experiencing similar challenges.
• Respite services that allow those much needed breaks that better support families in meeting other needs. 
• Nurturing services that support parents who need assistance to strengthen the parent-child relationship, after returning from overseas, with the goal to bring the family together again. 
• Therapeutic recreation, programs and camping services, hosted at accessible facilities to meet the needs of veterans with disabilities and their families.
• Operation Purple, a week long camp experience for children of deployed parents, in partnership with the National Military Family Association.
