Camp Yellow Ribbon Thank you to our 2013 Camp Yellow Ribbon presenting sponsor:
Today, military families face unique challenges that can impact their peace of mind, health, and overall well-being. Military families face the constant possibility or the realization of separation from their loved one due to war. These families also must face the fact that the separation may not just be a temporary one. These realities can cause additional strains on families, greatly affecting their children. Lengthy Deployments Linked to Mental Health Problems of Children Children with one or more parent on long-term deployment in Iraq or Afghanistan have a higher chance of mental health problems, according to a new study. Published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, the study examined the medical records of 307,520 U.S. children, aged 5 to 17, who had at least one parent on active duty in the U.S. Army. During that time period, nearly 17 percent of the children were diagnosed with a mental health disorder. The likelihood of a mental health diagnosis increased with the length of deployment, particularly among boys and girls whose parents were deployed for more than 11 months. Camp Yellow Ribbon provides a fun and educational outlet for children in military families, from all service branches. The goal of this specialized camp is to help them to learn how to cope with the challenges of having a family member who is deployed or has returned from overseas. Our goal is to create a memorable camp experience and an exciting week of outdoor fun and adventure while allowing campers the opportunity to gather and learn in a safe place, vent their fears and frustrations and to meet other children who are experiencing similar challenges. Camp Yellow Ribbon also gives campers opportunities to learn, grow, and celebrate the military experience. Help Support Camp Yellow Ribbon Help us to serve those that serve us! A $100 donation will pay for a day of camp for one of our campers. Your gift will help them make new friends and just be a kid while getting the emotional support they need. |
