Work Adjustment Training
The Work Adjustment Training Program uses real work to help the person understand the meaning, value, and demands of work while learning to re-establish skills, attitudes, and work behaviors. The service is time limited, transitional, and an overall systematic training approach that assists persons toward their optimal level of vocational development. Paid work assignments are provided under the supervision of supportive staff as a means to support the person towards reaching personal vocational goals.
Work Adjustment Training goals help individuals:
- Learn the skills and expectations needed to work independently in the community
- Identify vocational goals
- Build self-confidence
- Develop effective problem solving, communication and coping skills
- Improve relationships with supervisors and co-workers
Eligibility Criteria
- 16 years of age or older
- Documented disability or barrier to work
- Not harmful to self or others
- Independent of self cares
- Funding Approval (DVR or Other)
- Independent in administering medication
- Able to make informed choices

Pre Vocational Training
The primary purpose of Pre-Vocational Training is to provide learning opportunities and work experience in which a person is able to develop and maintain general skills that contribute to employment in integrated, community settings. Training participants build skills through on the job training, with pay, as well as opportunities through skill-building learning sessions. Pre-Vocational Training is designed to enhance the participant’s awareness and eventual success in the “world of work” while providing an avenue to promote both self-awareness and advocacy.
Pre Vocational Training helps individuals to:
- Learn skills and expectations needed to work independently out in the community
- Identify vocational goals
- Build self-confidence
- Develop effective problem solving, communication and coping skills
- Improve relationships with supervisors and co-workers
Pre-Vocational Training goals focus on increasing both functional and work skills to progress towards a job in the community, and increasing overall independence. Training participants develop and increase basic vocational skills while working with trained Easter Seals staff to develop individual personal goals based on their interest and strengths.

Situational Assessment
Easter Seals will help individuals define and reach vocational goals via a 10-day situational assessment in assembly and/or packaging.
Situational Assessments identify, assess and develop
- Work behaviors
- Work attitudes
- Work appearance
- Specific worker traits
- Work tolerance
- Occupational skills
A final report including vocational strengths and limitations, as well as recommendations for additional support is completed to begin assisting individuals towards work opportunities.

Food Service Training
Easter Seals can conduct a 10 day situational assessment or provide the training participant a six twelve week intensive training within our Commercial Catering Division. The goal of the program is to assess current level of skills and also to develop new skills to move on to a career in the food service area. Training takes place in cafeteria setting, catering events and within a commercial kitchen.
Food Service Aide - conducted in a cafeteria
- Stocking supplies and preparing the line to serve 200 + individuals
- Serving food and portion control to 200 + individuals daily
- Basic clean up of the line and take down
- Sweeping, wiping tables and taking out the garbage
Food Service Assistant conducted in a commercial kitchen
- Preparation of daily food items
- Cutting, mixing, baking and following recipes
- Food storage and quality control
- Basic clean up within the kitchen
- Dishwashing with the use of a commercial machine
- Learning session to prepare for the ServSafe Certification

- Ability to stand, stoop, walk for a 4-6 hour shift

Landscaping Training
Easter Seals can provide intensive training for six to twelve weeks within our Commercial Landscape Division. Training participants work on a crew out at contracted job sites throughout Waukesha and Milwaukee Counties conducting ground maintenance and landscaping tasks.
Training skills include:
- Demonstration and use of string trimmer, push mower, blower, carts, shovels and racks to complete assigned areas
- Customer services and job site maintenance
- Proper clean up of equipment and storage at the end of the day
- Safety of equipment and community safety
- To work as a team to accomplish tasks
Eligibility Criteria
- 18 years of age or older
- Documented disability or barrier to work
- Not harmful to self or others
- Independent of self cares
- Funding approval
- Independent in medication administration
- Ability to stand, stoop, walk for a 4-6 hour shift
- Evidence of a production rate of 75% or higher time studies are conducted prior to acceptance into the training program

Custodial Training
Easter Seals can provide intensive training for six to twelve weeks within our Commercials Cleaning Division. Training participants work on a crew at our contracted job sites throughout Waukesha and Milwaukee Counties.
Training skills include:
- Vacuuming, restroom maintenance, garbage/recycling, kitchen clean-up, and high/low dusting
- Work pace and tolerance
- Team work, following directions and follow through of tasks in an independent setting
- Customer Service and interaction with customers

- Independent in medication administration
- Access to Public Transportation
- Ability to stand, stoop, walk for a 4-6 hour shift
